BOUCHERCON
DAVID THOMPSON SPECIAL SERVICE AWARD 2024
Crime Writers of Color is honored to be the 2024 recipient of Bouchercon's David Thompson Special Service Award.
The award is recognized annually by the Bouchercon Board to give tribute to the memory and contributions to the crime fiction community by David Thompson, a much beloved Houston bookseller who passed away in 2010. Today, the Bouchercon Board honors persons who contribute with extraordinary efforts to develop and promote the crime fiction field.
The award will be given during the opening ceremonies of the Bouchercon 2024 convention in Nashville. See you there!
UNDERREPRESENTED VOICES RECEPTION 2023
Crime Writers of Color was thrilled to host the third annual "Underrepresented Voices, Presented by Crime Writers of Color" reception on Friday, September 1st from 7 – 8:30 pm local time at Bouchercon 2023 in San Diego. This free event let Bouchercon attendees meet established and up-and-coming crime authors from traditionally marginalized communities.**
Instead of doing traditional readings, we had a Game Night! The goal, as always, was to get as big a spotlight on marginalized voices as possible. Games included authors needing to find a line in their books to meet a prompt, True and False trivia about their characters, and Genre Battles where say the cozy writers went up against thriller writers to craft a pitch.
We appreciated seeing you in San Diego!
UNDERREPRESENTED VOICES RECEPTION 2022
The second annual Underrepresented Voices Reception, presented by Crime Writers of Color, was held as part of Bouchercon 2022 in Minneapolis on Friday, September 9, 2022 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM Central time at the Hilton Minneapolis First Floor Gallery. Attendees listened to readings from E.A. Aymar, Mia P. Manansala, Sujata Massey and Rob Osler. They were also able to mingle with a variety of established and up-and-coming crime authors from traditionally marginalized communities**—some of whom raffled off their latest work—while enjoying drinks and snacks.
